State medicines list online as of August 1

THE HEALTH ministry is due to make available online a list of all medications available in the state sector as of Thursday. All medicines available via Cyprus’ state health services will be listed on the website, although the list will not be broken down to regional availability or prices, the health ministry has said.

The online list “will ensure the public receives timely and effective information on medicines made available in state hospitals,” an official announcement said.

The list will enumerate drugs, which state health beneficiaries are entitled to receive through drug prescriptions on a nominal fee of 50 cents per prescription. The fee is capped at €10, and aims to discourage system abuse.

The website www.publicformulary.gov.cy should go live on Thursday, the ministry said.

It was not immediately clear whether the list would be bilingual in Greek and English and ministry officials could not be reached to clarify. Pharmaceutical services are now updating the English version of their website although Greek speakers may visit www.moh.gov.cy/phs and click on the side bar on the drug pricing directorate to see the maximum retail prices of drugs available in both the state and private sector.
