PHILELEFTHEROS: “Kilos of drugs coming from the North” Large amounts of drugs are coming from the North to Larnaca and Nicosia. Loucas Adamou, 29, from Frenaros was recently found with a kilo of cocaine, 3,000 ecstasy pills and 12kg of cannabis that he bought from a Turkish Cypriot in Ayia Napa. He informed police of his accomplices, one of whom was also arrested and named Adamou as his supplier. Another 18 grams of cannabis was found at Adamou’s house.
POLITIS: “Vlittis Family Ltd” Just before plans were made for construction works in Paralimni it was discovered that the family of the Paralimni Mayor have bought land on the beach road and in record time obtained building permits to construct hundreds of villas. The two sons, son-in-law and in-laws of Mayor Nicos Vlittis have architectural plans, building permits, road designs, and plans for the villas.
HARAVGI: “Gift for sheep and goat farmers from government” A meeting between the Foreign Ministry and the Farming Organisations to discuss illegally built sheep and goat farms led to a decision for legal reform that would take thousands of farmers out of their current difficulties. The law will stipulate how many animals the farmer can have on the land as well as the size of the land and position.
MACHI: “Fatal second accident” A farmer was killed yesterday when he was crushed by his own tractor. Vasilis Christodoulou, 74, was driving his tractor when it overturned, killing him. The man had lost a leg in a similar accident at exactly the same spot 15 years ago.
ALITHIA: “Loizidou compensation decision postponed” The decision for compensation for Titina Loizidou has been postponed, as Turkey refuses to accept the European Court’s decision in favour of the Kyrenia refugee, and says they must wait until 2005. However, the Court of Human rights maintains that its decisions apply to all countries. The matter will be discussed next week.
SIMERINI: “Syrian man lost in Yermasoyia dam” The body of a 22-year-old Syrian man is believed to be in the Yermasoyia dam after he went fishing there. The police conducted searches to find the man when he dropped his fishing rod and jumped into the dam to get it. As minutes went by, he did not surface, so his friends asked help from people in the area. Two divers went into the dam to see if they could locate the young man but were unable to find him.
