New meeting set in truck dispute

POVEK, the union representing disgruntled truck drivers, yesterday assured that no industrial action would be taken until representatives of class ‘A’ heavy goods vehicles met again with Communications Minister Kikis Kazamias.

Kazamias held a three-hour meeting with POVEK yesterday, where he laid out the government’s position on their demands. Another meeting was set for next Monday to give Kazamias time to study their demands and answer accordingly.

POVEK General Secretary Melios Georgiou assured the drivers would not go on strike until the next meeting had taken place.

“I am neither worried nor relaxed after our meeting with the minister,” he said.
The truckers’ central committee was set to meet yesterday afternoon to discuss Kazamias’ position and will meet again when the government’s positions are put in writing.
