Great hotels, shame about the litter

The leader column in the Cyprus Mail of August 9 was excellent. Particularly relevant to visitors is, as you say, “the elusive quality outside their five-star hotel”.

The area of East Beach in Limassol is typical. We have wonderful hotels which provide a real oasis for a holiday, but outside that environment the streets and the beach are litter-strewn and dirty, due in part to a totally inadequate supply of litter bins. Pavements are broken and are often used for car parking. Long-abandoned vehicles are also part of the scenery.

Cyprus has so much to offer, but it is important that visitors leave with a good visual image and wanting to recommend the island as a quality holiday destination.

The plethora of low quality nightclubs, fast food eating places, tacky advertisement hoardings and a lack of golf facilities and more cultural activities do not help to create a good quality image.
