After a summer of love with headline concerts, Cyprus is set for another treat
WHAT a summer we had this year, with all the concerts, plays and operas, it was certainly not one to forget. Among the lot I went to, one that will stay in mind is the Scorpions concert. I admitted that I was not a rock music fan but the Scorpions did overwhelm me. Could Rage, a German Rock Band, do the same? And that’s not all because Moonlight Productions have surprises galore for us this year including some very famous names.
There was once a Russian, an American and a German and they formed a group called Rage. Although that sounds like the start of a bad joke, they have become a milestone in German rock music since 1983, when the band was formed. Their international breakthrough came in 1988, with the release of the Perfect Man album. The album contains the hard rock classic ‘Don’t fear the winter’. Peavy Wagner, Victor Smolski and Mike Terrana are Rage and they are coming to Cyprus on December 29 for one mind-blowing concert at Nicosia’s Pavilion.
Known at first as Avenger, the band later came up with the name Rage and released their album Reign of Fear in 1984. Although, I am a bit on the young side to be a rocker, many of the even younger generation are familiar with Rage and can’t wait. They’ve toured with Motorhead, Running Wild and many other successful bands.
Mike Terrana, on drums, is, or so I am told, one of the best drummers in the world. So much so that he will be bringing his own drum kit with him, so get ready for a lot of rocking. However, Peavy Wagner is the mastermind behind Rage, as he has introduced a new era with a personnel change, enlisting internationally experienced musicians, such as Victor Smolski, who is a multi-award winning instrumentalist.
Rage is about to unleash their Soundchaser album, and accompanying it with a world tour that also takes in Cyprus.
Although, we are talking Hard Rock, there is a touch of the kind of music which is far from this. Rage mix their music with classical orchestration and emphasised how different they are, when they performed with a complete orchestra at one of Europe’s greatest festivals.
Helen Katsmbas, manger of Moonlight Productions, is working hard to make Cyprus like any other European country by bringing close to us the never before seen famous names of music. “I am planning on bringing Chris De Burgh in March, a member of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and even Bonnie Tyler,” she said. All these names on one stage! And that’s not all, as there will be a lot more. As older people than me informed me, Chris De Burgh, is going to be a face, everyone will run to see. Helen said: “It will be romantic with tables and flowers, very aristocratic.” Imagine that? Chris De Burgh singing for you.
So, all through the next year, Cyprus will be bombarded with concerts and familiar faces from the past for the young generation and the old. For further details, watch this space…
