Take seven: ovens

With Christmas (and a big roast turkey) coming it may be time to consider replacing your faithful old cooker. With so many models on sale, all boasting state of the art electronics, it’s hardly surprising that buying new can be a bit daunting.

The latest thing is A-rated electric ovens; less wasteful of energy than previous models, costing less to run than the B and G rated models.
We asked seven readers to tell us about their oven.

AEG electric fan oven
‘It is always reliable, it has a great fan facility and is also totally dummy proof, especially when it comes to my husband using it when he fancies trying his hand at making banana bread,’ Markella Petrou
Price: £450

Kuppersbush-Okotherm
‘Mine has no cooking smells emit from the oven.. I am very pleased with it and find it easy to keep clean. The only down side is it has an integral grill which you use when the door is closed. Personally I like to open the door to see ‘what’s cooking,’ Deborah Russell
Price: £600

Neff UI double oven
‘It’s stylish that’s what I wanted, something that looked good, and was also super efficient. This fits the bill perfectly. The sole draw back is I find the hydroclean system a bit messy to use, but, other than that, this oven should last a lifetime,’ Anita Georgiou.
Price: £1,000

Creda Jackson J160E
‘A friend had this model, and I bought the same after she told me how well it maintained the temperatures. It’s a single oven, free standing. The hob has a range of different sized burners and a good simmer burner. It may lack the more upmarket functions that other ovens display, but it’s so simple to use, easy to clean, and it does the job,’ Louisa Piperides
Price: £469

Gaggenau single oven
‘I love it. This is an oven that will last for ever, it’s easy to clean, and easy to use, the grill is also very large and works like a dream, and I never ever worry about whether I can get all the Christmas food cooked all at once- this oven, as far as I am concerned, has zero downsides – its perfect,’ Sally Rousis.
Price: £2,000

Miele single oven
‘I liked it because it has a quick heat up setting, which reduces the time you need to wait before putting the food in the oven when using conventional heat. There’s a good size grill pan, but it’s a bit of a tight squeeze come the cooking of Christmas lunch, but for the rest of the year, other than Easter celebrations etc, its perfect for all our needs,’ Irina Tsanos.
Price: £650

Hotpoint EW 85SS double oven
‘My sister had the same model and she always had no trouble with it so I copied her and have also had no complaints. It’s a modern, stainless steel model which has good visibility on both ovens. There’s a good fast grill, and the hobs boil up very quickly. I also got from the manufacturers a very good cookery book and excellent instructions book,’ Anna Esping.
