Deeply insulted by comment by ‘Danes’ and ‘Austrians’

Comments made against Turkish EU membership by so-called ‘Danes’ and ‘Austrians’ (Letters to the editor, Sunday Mail, October 17) are pathetic attempts to scare-monger the public.

Unfortuntely they come at a bad time, in the post 9/11 period where islamaphobia coupled with Turkophobia are widespread.

The male Greek Cypriot who wrote these messages (I know it’s a man – they always are), does not realise how reckless he is being nor does he realise the negative impact it has on the Cyprus question.

Turkish Cypriots like myself reading this paper, although not ourselves Turkish mainlanders, feel deeply insulted and hurt by such ignorant remarks. It rather puts us off reunification.
