Egyptian man murdered in Limassol

POLICE ARE investigating the murder of 54-year-old Egyptian resident of Cyprus, Milant Kalmas, that took place in the early hours of yesterday morning.

At 12.40am shots were heard at the entrance to the Zako apartment building on Koumandarias Street in Limassol. A tourist living in the block heard the shots, ran downstairs and found Kalmas lying in a pool of blood at the entrance and immediately notified the police.

The Limassol police instantly rushed to the crime scene as well as pathologist Panayiotis Stavrianos, who confirmed he died instantly. The autopsy confirmed that he had been shot at close range six times and died of a cracked skull and punctured heart and lungs.

He was shot once in the head and in other parts of his body.

Police are struggling to find the culprits as there was no evidence at the crime scene to help them in their investigation. It is suspected that those who killed Kalmas were professionals.

Kalmas was shot while walking past the building where he lived and had his office. He owned an import-export company and had lived in Cyprus for 20 years. He was divorced with two children. Police are taking statements from various friends and neighbours who said he was friendly and never caused any problems.

Deputy police chief in Limassol Andreas Iatropoulos said that the police were continuing investigations to find Kalmas’ murderers.
