So many more deserving people

Sir
I HAVE been reading the online version of the Cyprus Mail for as long as it has been around.
I have also been reading your paper longer than that.

I read the article ‘Happy to be part of the team’ (July 8 page 5) by Elena Theofanous.

Now I’ll be quite blunt, is your paper in any financial or political difficulty that they
need to get on good terms with the owners of McDonalds? Or is this the best bit of news
your paper could come up with?

First of all I’m sure there’s loads of other athletes or people who have contributed a lot more
to Cyprus, who deserve being mentioned in the media. Or let me put it differently, I’m sure
there’s a lot more deserving people out there who WILL NOT be carrying the flame simply because
their families are not on top of the financial ladder.

Now if you could please tell me what Elena Sofia Andreou has ever done or contributed to Cyprus
in accordance with the Olympic spirit I would be more than happy to read about it.

Now forget diplomacy, I live in Cyprus I know that the only reason she is carrying the torch
is because her family have money. That’s the reality in Cyprus, you get used to it.

However I don’t expect to read this sort of rubbish in your paper in a very, very pathetic
attempt to glamourise McDonalds or the daughter of the owner of McDonalds. Again there are so
many more people who would deserve to be mentioned, why her?
