Church to investigate report leak

THE HOLY Synod called for a police investigation into the leaking of the much-awaited report on the squandering of Church property to the press yesterday.

The report was allegedly given in full to Ant1 television station which reported on it last night, after Bishop of Paphos Chrysostomos had categorically refused to release the report comprised by the three-member investigative committee in its entirety.

Bishop of Kiti Chrysostomos said he suggested to the Holy Synod that the police investigate the leak. However, the police ruled out an investigation, citing media confidentiality.

The Paphos Bishop quelled rumours of upcoming elections for the throne of the Archbishop, saying that the Ecumenical Patriarch had asked for unanimity in the Holy Synod for such action to be taken. “So, it is not possible,” he told reporters yesterday.
