Mobile evolution

Sir,
There has long been a debate among scientists as to whether evolution is one continuous, gradual process or a series of sudden, large changes.

It would appear the advocates of the latter argument have been proven correct and the evidence is to be found here in Cyprus. Am I the only person to note that suddenly it is impossible for motorists on this island to drive their vehicle without one hand clamped to their right ear and speaking into their mobile phone?

Recent reports in your august organ suggest the police have fined 2,000 drivers since the beginning of the year. So few? I see that many offenders every week. Our only consolation is that nowadays the last words of people killed in road traffic accidents are recorded for posterity. Usually “Oh ****” as they see they are going to crash.
