Brazilian healer should be allowed to visit

Sir,
We have been informed that the Church has succeeded in preventing the entry to Cyprus of Joao de Deus, a well-known Brazilian faith healer.

Yet reports on this healer are generally very favourable. Many prominent personalities, including top scientists, have not only studied him but also consulted him to the great benefit of their own health.

One famous American psychologist has personally told me that he has had a healing experience with this healer. In Brazil, where Joao de Deus maintains a large establishment, he offers his help to all without charge.

He asks only for purely voluntary donations that go to pay for the upkeep of his healing centre, which contributes enormously to the welfare of the poor. He is considered to be a saint by virtually all who know him.

Regardless of the Church’s negative attitude, I believe that true Christianity still lives on in the hearts of the people, most of whom would surely be more than willing to welcome to Cyprus this good man, who has dedicated his life and God-given talent entirely to the welfare of others.

Dare we to hope that Joao de Deus will not be prevented from coming to Cyprus in July?
