CY links up with Olympic in bid for competitive edge

CYPRUS Airways (Cy) and the Greek national carrier Olympic Airways (OA) yesterday signed an agreement for joint flights to and from Larnaca.

The agreement, effective June 21, was signed in Athens by CY chairman Constantinos Loizides and OA chairman Petros Papageorgiou.

According to Papageorgiou, the co-operation with CY will help expand the re-structured Greek carrier more flexibily and will create a competitive advantage in the market.

The new deal will see nine daily flights to Athens and Salonica, while flights to Manchester will also start from June 21, after another agreement between OA and CY daughter company Hellas Jet, with passengers able to choose one of four flights a week.
According to Loizides, CY passengers will also be able to travel to and from the 75 OA destinations in Greece and other countries.

The two bosses also hinted at lower ticket prices.

“The competition calls for the best possible quality of services at the lowest prices,” Loizides said.

The new prices are set to be announced within the next few days.
