Forensic tests could cast light on attack against Anastassiades

JUSTICE Minister Doros Theodorou said yesterday the results of forensic examination on shrapnel from a grenade used in an attack against DISY leader Nicos Anastassiades’ home on Tuesday, were expected to be ready later in the day.

Speaking to the Cyprus Mail yesterday, Theodorou said the media had made a mistake in quoting him as saying DNA had been found on the shrapnel.

“I never said they found DNA traces on the grenade,” he said.

“I said there was the possibility that DNA traces could be found under a layer of rust that is being removed by experts at the Institute of Genetics today for tests, and we are expecting to know whether we will find any traces later today.”

Theodorou said palm prints were discovered on a letter left in a phone booth by the Cyprus Nationalists’ Organisation in which they claimed responsibility for the attack.
“The palm prints, however, could belong to the journalist that took it, so we are examining that possibility now,” he said.

“It’s a possibility that our experts said exists, but for the moment there are no scheduled arrests for the attack. We will know after the tests are completed today by the experts.”
