Platres man escapes murder attempt

POLICE are investigating an attempted murder in the mountain resort of Platres on Sunday, but no leads have come up so far although the victim has named some suspects.

Around midnight on Sunday, 75-year-old Andreas Moustakas was accosted by an unidentified man as he left his apartment and was making his way to his parked car. The suspect fired two shots with a hunting rifle.

Although the shots were fired from a short distance, the victim was lucky to escape with superficial wounds to the chest. Moustakas called his relatives on his mobile, and was later rushed to Limassol general hospital for treatment.

Police cordoned off the crime scene, and guards were posted outside Moustakas’ house throughout the night.

The victim later gave police the names of people with whom he had had disputes in the past, but the potential suspects were all found to have airtight alibis. Moustakas owns a pub in Platres.

Until yesterday, police had no leads on the attempted murder. Limassol CID are investigating.
