TV, movies and the internet: all in one from CyTA

BBC news, CNN, National Geographic, Movie channels and more will soon be made available to ADSL users through CyTA’s new miVision service that will be up and running in May.

MiVision will offer entertainment, information and communication all through the television set. Subscribers will be able to watch various TV channels and have access to the Internet via the TV as well as send and receive e-mails all for £25 per month.

How it operates is simple. All the user needs is to have an ADSL connection through the phone line and a special decoder to access the channels.

CyTA spokesman Paris Menelaou yesterday told the Cyprus Mail that people would purchase the Top Box decoder from CyTA, but that the cost had not yet been determined.

MiVision provides various services and channels that have not been available to the Cypriot public before.

Users will receive a reception of high quality digital pictures and sound, several thematic channels and 24 hours per day of entertainment. People with have the option to watch Greek and foreign movies when they so choose, as well as to access the Internet via the television.

“There will be 25 TV channels in total including BBC world news, CNN, Eurosport, music channels, National Geographic, cartoons and other foreign channels,” said Menelaou.

A video library will also be at the customer’s disposal, for £1-3 per movie.
With miVision, people will be able to access simple web pages via their television and will not have to get up and go to their computer. They can also read incoming e-mails and send them out.

Menelaou said anyone interested in obtaining miVision service could apply to CyTA or call 132 for more information.

“People must fill in an application form so we can determine what needs to be done in order for them to become miVision subscribers. Those who do not have ADSL at home will need to have it installed before they can access miVision,” said Menelaou.

“It is very similar to the cable set up in the UK, where you have the decoder and various services at your disposal,” said Menelaou.
