Two men held for attempted rape

TWO 27-year-old Turkish Cypriot men were yesterday remanded in custody for five days in connection with the attempted rape of a foreign woman in a Larnaca hotel, police yesterday.

Police said they were investigating a case of illegal entry into a hotel room, attempted rape, robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony.

According to the 26-year-old woman, who was staying at the hotel with her boyfriend, three unknown men knocked on the door and entered her room while she was alone at around 1pm.

The three suspects allegedly beat the woman, taking around £90 from her purse before holding her down while one tried to rape her.

The men were interrupted when the woman’s boyfriend returned and fled the scene, police said.

Officers from the Oroklini station soon located and arrested two of the suspects while the third one managed to escape in a car registered in the north.

Further investigation established all three suspects were Turkish Cypriots, police said.
The third suspect is still being sought.
