Extra security after new cars broken into at port

LIMASSOL police are stepping security at the port after imported cars parked within the premises were broken into and damaged on two separate occasions in the past few weeks.
Car importers reported to police that certain items had been stolen from their cars on Thursday, the second such recent incident. Yesterday, Limassol port authorities and the police announced they would implement a stricter monitoring system to prevent any more thefts.

Guards will monitor the imported cars parking lot on a 24-hour basis and an electronic camera system will be installed in and around the area. The Limassol Port Authority was confident this would prevent any trespassers from slipping in to the car lot unnoticed.
Limassol police yesterday told the Cyprus Mail that those responsible had vandalised cars, stolen CD players, indicator lights and car symbols, as well as other parts.

According to police the culprits were not amateurs when it came to breaking into cars. They apparently used special scissors to cut through the thick wire to enter the parking lot and damaged various cars, as well as stealing parts.

The Limassol port insurance will compensate importers for the damage to the cars.
