The hygiene factor

Sir,

The Nicosia Mayor Michalakis Zampelas was right to refer to the need for modern toilets as Hygiene rooms, although Mr Patroclos from the Coffee Shop does not appear to understand the reasoning.  Hertzburge was the first to identify ‘Hygiene Factors’ as factors, which in themselves do not make a individual feel better, but if they are missing are a source of irritation.  An example he gave was where a worker was under-paid.  The extra money did not in itself motivate once it was at the right level, but it was a source of irritation if it was less than right.  Having been to Nicosia and seen the state and the lack of public toilets this is a real Hygiene Factor, and I would say to Mr Patroclos “It is not just gays that need toilets”.  A poor and dirty toilet in a modern city is very definitely a Hygiene Factor and one that leaves a lasting impression after the holiday has finished.
