ALITHIA: “The government’s proposal after the feast”. The government decided last Thursday to issue suggestions to open up Ledra Street after having gotten word that the UN will not under any circumstance report Turkey as having broken the status quo in Ledra Street. UNFICYP says the only matter that is at this point under consideration is forcing Turkey to stop all works in Ledra Street.
MACHI: “Costas, Tassos’ messenger”. The governments of Greece and Cyprus are cooperating together to put a stop to the works being done in Ledra Street by the Turkish forces. In a telephone conference President Papadopoulos asked the Greek Prime Minister to tell the British Prime Minister of the problems and discomfort that the Turkish forces are creating for the Greek Cypriots which has gotten even worse these past three days.
POLITIS: “£1,000 for drug addicts”. The government has decided to give drug addicts a total of £50,000 pounds on the condition they join a rehabilitation programme. This has enraged the members of the Anti-Narcotics Council who were not consulted before this decision was put into action. The beneficiaries will get £1,000 without having to commit to finishing the rehabilitation programme.
SIMERINI: “Nightmare”. A gang of about 12 students while inside their school attempted to take the clothes off three of their female foreign schoolmates. These irresponsible actions of students are causing a great disturbance, especially when these actions are done within their own schools.
PHILELEFTHEROS: “Paying out uncontrollably”. According to the Investigative Committee’s findings, the people to blame for the Nicosia hospital scandal are the project manager as well as all the people involved with the publication and control of all the payment certificates. The committee clearly states in their report that the entire project was lost during the construction because of the chaos and lack of organisation between everyone involved.
HARAVGHI: “Prospect proposal”. The government has filed an official proposal to UNFICYP so that it may be possible to open Ledra Street while at the same time UNFICYP has publicly announced their anger for the occupational forces’ works near Ledra Street as this is not a good way to build a good relationship based on trust.
