Theodorou tight-lipped on strike tussle report

JUSTICE Minister Doros Theodorou has said that the police investigative report into the violent scuffles between police and journalists during a trucker’s strike in August has been handed to him. He added that the report would now be handed to the Cabinet, which would decide on what to do.

The strike was marked by clashes that erupted outside the factory when truck drivers resisted police efforts to break the picket line and allow the transport of much-needed cement to construction sites. Police took offence to the presence of television cameras and scuffles broke out with members of the media resulting in the arrest of a CyBC cameraman and a fallout between the media and police force.

Ombudswoman Iliana Nicolaou has condemned the actions of the police in handling the confrontation.

Theodorou said yesterdays he would not discuss the content of the report.
