Limassol villages attacked

THERE WAS drama in the Limassol villages of Yermasoyias and Ayios Athanassios in the early hours of yesterday with a separate bomb and arson attack occurring in the space of ten minutes.
At 3.05am the Mikellides family became the victim of a bomb attack after being awoken by a loud explosion that caused damage to both the inside and the outside of the house. Christakis Mikellides, 52, told police officials that he had no quarrels with anybody and could not understand why anybody would want to do him or his family any harm.

Police officials later discovered that the bomb, planted at his front door, was a homemade device and was highly explosive.

Limassol CID officials also said that they were baffled as to why Mikellides, a seemingly quiet and modest hotel employee with a wife and two young sons, would become the target of such a brutal attack.

Ten minutes later in the nearby village of Yermasoyias, a Sri Lankan became the victim of an arson attack after his moped was deliberately set alight. The fire quickly spread and within minutes another moped and a car parked close by also caught fire.

Limassol police have stated that a British tourist appears to be the key witness in the case, stating that he saw two suspicious people leaving the scene of the crime.
