Hellas Sat back down

THE COMPANY Hellas Sat has finally backed down and asked for its new satellite station to be relocated, away from the residential areas of Sia, Mosphiloti and Alambra.

After a long and intense battle between the company and the area’s residents, Hellas Sat has asked the government to allocate them with a different, more isolated location so they can start building their station.

Residents had been afraid that their health would be at risk from emissions from the satellite station.

The Green Movement has been supporting the residents since the start of their battle and yesterday issued a statement congratulating Hellas Sat on asking for relocation.

The statement also included praise for the other political parties’ support, even if it was “somewhat belated”.

DISY’s representative on the environment and sustainable growth, Nicos Tornarites, also congratulated the company on its decision, urging the government to stand up to its responsibilities and issue Hellas Sat with a new building site soon.

Tornarites also commended the residents of Sia. Mosphiloti and Alampra for putting up a fight and refusing to back down.

The matter is now in the government’s hands.
