Youths arrested for burglaries

THREE YOUTHS were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of a series of recent burglaries in Nicosia. The arrests came on the tail of an eyewitness account of a robbery that occurred on the same day.

A Nicosia house broken into and the thieves stole various jewellery items worth around £5,420. Cash totaling £500 was also stolen from the house.

Later that same night, police issued warrants for and arrested a 16-year-old girl, a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old boy. All of the youths are foreigners currently living in Nicosia.

While searching the apartment of the 16-year-old girl, police discovered mobile telephones, a video camera and some jewellery believed to be stolen property.

The girl later told police that most of the jewellery and other items were sold for cash in the occupied north of the island. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old boy later confessed to police that he had indeed burgled the house as well as other houses in the past along with the 16-year-old girl.

Nicosia CID are still investigating the matter.
