Student killed in bike crash

A BULGARIAN student was the latest person to lose his life on the roads late on Monday after losing control of his motorcycle on the Kellaki-Parekklisia road in Limassol.

Ivan Petrov, 23, was riding without a helmet, police said, when he lost control of the bike and headed into oncoming traffic near the village of Prastio.

The accident happened at around 8pm

The student was critically injured and rushed to Limassol hospital where he died three hours later. He was the 57th road accident victim this year.

Statistics released yesterday showed the number of road accidents between 2003 and 2004 dropped from 3,777 to 3,284. However, the number of casualties increased from 97 dead and 3,411 injured in 2003 to 117 people killed and 3,176 injured in 2004.
