Turkey and the EU

Myria Antoniadou’s article, ‘A clear message to Turkey on Cyprus (Sunday Mail, June 30) is thought provoking. One aspect of Turkey’s attempts to join EU has not been made clear by Ms Antoniadou.  If Turkey joins EU it will no longer have any need for a strategic relationship with Israel.  Given the majority of the Turkish populations’ irrational animosity towards Israel and America, it is not too hard to envision an anti-American and anti-Israel block forming around Turkey within the EU.
