Cocktail of the week with Fabrizio Musorella

Manhattan
This is one of my favourite pre-dinner cocktails and so easy to make. It is one of the few classics made with whiskey rather than clear spirits. The origins are unclear; some say it was created in 1874 at the Manhattan Club in New York for Lady Randolph Churchill. Variations exist to suit every palate: Sweet (with a spoon of syrup from the maraschino cherries), Dry (made only with Dry Vermouth), Perfect (a combination of Dry and Sweet Vermouth).

Ingredients
5cl Rye whisky (Canadian)
2cl sweet Vermouth
1 dash Angostura Bitters

Preparation
In a mixing glass or a jug put five cubes of ice and pour all the ingredients.
Stir and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
