Illegal immigrant arrests

POLICE announced yesterday it had detained 13 foreigners in connection with illegal entry, residence and employment on the island.

One employer was also arrested, police said.

The 13 were arrested during a 24-hour crackdown across the island, which was carried out jointly by various police departments.

Eleven foreigners were arrested for illegal residence and one for illegal employment.
The Cypriot man who provided employment to the foreigner was also arrested.
One was detained for illegal entry into the republic.

Elderly woman injured

A 64-YEAR-OLD resident of a Larnaca village was injured yesterday after she was hit by a car driven by another woman, 31.

Police said the 64-year-old was hit while trying to cross Stasinou Street in Larnaca.
She was rushed to hospital where she was kept for treatment, police said.

Morphou blitz books 52

POLICE said it has booked 52 drivers in 24 hours for various traffic offences.

The bookings were recorded between 6am on Sunday and 6am on Monday.

Twenty-nine drivers were reported for speeding and one for using a mobile phone behind the wheel. Three others were booked for other traffic offences.

All 33 reports were made in the Morphou district.

A further 16 drivers were reported for speeding in Famagusta, while three were booked for other offences in the same area.
