Take 7 compilations

The year is over but the music has not necessarily gone. We look at seven compilations of the year.

NOW That’s what I call music, volume 59
Ever since NOW came out, its been going strong. And volume 59 (can you believe it?) is up there with the best of them with a little r n b, some pop and ballads but mostly I think the idea of NOW was so you don’t have to stick to one music station in order to listen to the latest hits. Two disc set

Clubbers guide to 2005
Ministry of Sound has a cool collection of mainstream pop anthems including ‘Call On Me’ and ‘Out Of Touch’, which are mainly trance. Although many people who are into DJs such as Tiesto and Judge Jules have doubts about how trance-y this album is, the truth is, it is trance and all of these songs are for dancing till you drop. Two CDs including Fatboy Slim and Depeche Mode.

R & B Anthems 2005
This is one I’ll definitely be buying. Last time I was in the UK it was being advertised like mad because after all it is a good compilation suitable for lonely drives in the car and for a good dance. You’ve got Destiny’s Child, Jennifer Lopez, Britney and Ja Rule, to name but a few. This compilation is basically the best of 2004, as far as I’m concerned.

Best Rock Album in The World Ever
OK, the title says it all. I haven’t heard this one but obviously you probably get every classic, old rock song, you know the ones that make you go: “Ooooo, I loooove this song.” Starting off with Queen, then a bit of Alice Cooper with ‘School’s Out’ , Kiss and Lenny Kravitz. But how could it be the best without any heavy metal, so you get Black Sabbath and Motorhead.

The Number One Musicals Album 2004
I can just imagine my dad playing this one over and over again in his car and singing with my mum. Alright, I might be in that picture too because songs from musicals are fun because you can play certain roles as well. ‘Mamma Mia’, Grease mega-mix, ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ and several well known others are among the album, which again is a two CD album.

The Number One Swing Album 2004
‘Fly Me To The Moon’ and ‘Papa Loves Mambo’ are just two of the brilliant songs on this album. You don’t have to like Swing to have this album because its more like something you should have just for the sake of the good, old classic songs. Anything from Dean Martin to Jamie Cullum and Anita Baker and one of my favourites ‘Fever’ are on these two CDs.

The Best Bands Ever 2004
First of all, I love the CD package. A milk carton with all the bands on the side such as Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Oasis, Coldplay and Radiohead, what a good idea! One review said it was the best rock and indie album, so although the songs aren’t all recent, they are hits from the best bands in the world. Reviews also said that there were a few flops on the album but REM’s ‘It’s The End Of The World As We Know It’ is a great song and a personal favourite so I’ll give it the nod.
