Man shot in armed robbery

POLICE were yesterday searching for two armed robbers who raided a co-op bank in Arediou village south of Nicosia at 8.10am yesterday, and shot man as they made their getaway.

Two hooded men stormed into the bank holding shotguns and threatened bank staff. They managed to escape with around £25.000.

As they left the bank, however, a neighbour who had witnessed the bank robbery fired two shots in the air from his hunting rifle, provoking one of the armed robbers to fire back, injuring him slightly in the leg.

The two robbers, and a third suspect waiting for them in the getaway vehicle, fled the scene in a white Mitsubishi that was later discovered torched close to a riverbed. From there, the assailants escaped in a green Nissan Patrol which was last seen heading towards Paliometocho.
