Inmate gets five months for crime committed when 15

A PRISONER convicted of drug dealing was yesterday jailed for five months for a crime he committed when he was just 15.

The 19-year-old man from Nicosia, who is currently serving a five-year prison sentence for drug dealing and will not be released before 2010, was yesterday brought before a Nicosia judge after pleading guilty to breaking into a shop when he was just 15 and stealing 20 cartons of cigarettes worth £40 each, chocolate bars worth a total of £10 and £50 in cash from the register.

Judge Lemonia Kaoutzani took into account the defendant’s young age at the time and the fact that he was not alone when the crimes took place.

The man showed no remorse during the short hearing, saying he had “nothing to say” when given the chance to speak before sentence was passed.

“The defendant will serve five months for the charges starting from today,” said the judge.
