Baghdatis celebrations

Sir,
I am an Australian, born of Greek Cypriot parents. I have been watching the tennis and did not realise that Marcos was from Cyprus until later. I enjoyed watching him and found him a refreshing character, as did most Australians. When I found  out  he was from Cyprus I was elated for your country and my heritage.

How disappointed I was when after watching the news from his village celebrating his success, some of the  people were shooting guns in the air as a sign of celebration. How does a gun symbolise joy, peace and pride when all it is used for is killing. There is enough violence in the world today without irresponsible acts such as these.
