Limassol Council approves £10 million in development works

LIMASSOL City Council has formally approved the budget for 2008, which provides for over £10 million worth of spending on development works.

The budget was approved through a unanimous vote which took place on Tuesday night. Planned development projects for 2008 include the creation of more parking space in the city, improvement of the Pendadromos junction, creation of a municipal cultural centre, improvement of the seaside road reclamation area, creation of green and park areas and the improvement of refugee housing.

“I am pleased that the first budget vote under my term as Mayor has been voted on unanimously and I congratulate all councilors for the team spirit they are displaying,” said Andreas Christou, Mayor of Limassol.

The total annual budget for 2008 is £22.6 million (compared to £21.5 million in 2007), while expenses have been reduced by 30 per cent compared to the previous fiscal year. The budget also has a surplus of £10,000, which all councillors saw as a positive fact.
