Spike in car registrations

New registrations of motor vehicles increased by 13.9 per cent during the first nine months this year compared to the same period last year, according to the statistical services.
The total number of newly registered vehicles came to 19,307 compared to 16,994 last year.
July had the highest number of sales this year, totalling 2,608. The highest ever selling month was July 2009 when 7,077 vehicles were sold.
The number of privately owned registered saloon cars is up by 18.3 per cent, reaching 16,070 in total compared to 13,588 in the first nine months of 2014. Of these 7,421 or 46.2 per cent were brand new while 8,649 or 53.8 per cent were second hand cars.
