Police probe theft of £50,000 boat

POLICE are on the lookout for sailing boat that was stolen just over two weeks ago at a hotel marina in Limassol.

Efforts are also underway to stop a gang of burglars targeting luxury homes in the area.
According to police, the boat theft was only reported yesterday by the owner, believed to be a foreign national, because she had been attempting to locate it herself.

The sailing boat, which was docked outside the marina of the Ayios Rafael Hotel, is worth around £50,000.

Police have not ruled out the theft to be connected to an abandoned dingy recently found close to where the boat was stolen.

Investigators suspect that the boat is now out of Cyprus waters or could already be in another country.

Meanwhile, police in Limassol believe that a well-organised gang is behind burglaries at around ten luxury houses and apartments in the Limassol area.

According to investigators, the gang has stolen thousands of pounds worth of jewellery and cash in the last couple of weeks alone.

The latest burglary was in an apartment in which two safes were stolen containing around £30,000 in jewellery. The cash sum of £650 was also stolen.
