Two sexual assault claims in Ayia Napa

A BRITISH teenager has told authorities he was raped early on Sunday morning by a Bulgarian worker in Protaras.

The incident was one of two reported sexual assaults received by Famagusta CID over the weekend.

The first was reported by a 17-year-old British tourist at 7am on Sunday, who claimed he was raped by the 33-year-old worker, who is a permanent resident in Cyprus, as they returned from a drunken night out together.

An examination by state pathologist Eleni Antoniou showed that the teenager’s body bore traces of violation.

The Bulgarian was arrested and remanded to assist investigations. He denied any involvement in the incident.

A little later police received a complaint by a 20-year-old British tourist, claiming she had been raped by a stranger while she was in her apartment sleeping.

Her two friends who were staying in the same room told police they were not aware of any such incident.

The 20-year-old was also examined by Antoniou, who took fluid samples for further examination.

In an announcement yesterday, police said: “The investigators of the case are not excluding the possibility that the 20-year-old made the claim to secure insurance money when she returns to her country.”
