Pensioner arrested after sexual abuse claims

A 73-year-old man from Paphos was arrested on Tuesday in connection with allegations of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl six times between August 1 and October 17, according to a police report.

The girl’s mother, accompanied by a Social Welfare Services official, visited Paphos CID and pressed charges against the man on Tuesday morning.

She claimed that, on six separate occasions, the 73-year-old engaged in lewd behaviour when he found himself alone at home with the child.

Investigations will resume on Wednesday, when the girl will be examined by a pathologist.

Also on Wednesday, the 73-year-old will be brought before the Paphos district court for a remand hearing.
