Man called in over incident with the dog in the night

A 39-YEAR-OLD was yesterday taken into custody by Ayia Napa police after his dog was involved in a drunken brawl outside a hotel on Tuesday morning.

Last night, a police source from Ayia Napa told the Cyprus Mail that “the matter was still being investigated and that nobody had yet been charged with anything”.

According to police officers who were called to the scene, a 22-year-old British man had gotten into a fierce argument with a 27-year-old British woman.

The incident took place at around 6am outside a hotel in the tourist resort of Ayia Napa.

According to eye witness reports, the man suddenly punched the woman in the face before pulling out a knife.

At around the same time, the 39-year-old man, believed to be a resident of Ayia Napa, was passing by when he saw the incident. He pulled up outside the hotel and got out of the car and approached the tourists with his Rottweiler.

The man then set his dog on the man with the knife but instead of attacking the British tourist, it attacked a 23-year-old man who was at the scene.

The dog reportedly bit the man on the hand and in panic to escape the dog, the frightened man ran through the glass door of the hotel injuring himself in the process.

The 22-year-old was later taken into questioning by the officers in connection with the attack on the 27-year-old woman while the 39-year-old man drove away as the ambulance arrived to tend to the 23-year-old.
