Tourist hospitalised after drunken brawl

ONE TOURIST was hospitalised and one arrested while police were seeking a third man yesterday after a drunken brawl in front of an Ayia Napa hotel in the early hours.

According to police reports, a 22-year-old man set upon a 27-year-old woman, repeatedly punching her outside the hotel.

The situation escalated, with others joining in and a crowd forming around the scene, until finally the 22-year-old tourist pulled out a knife.

Upon seeing the melee, a 39-year-old local stopped his car and after surveying the scene set his pet rottweiler on the 22-year-old.

But instead of attacking the knife-wielding man, the dog bit another 23-year-old tourist on the hand, injuring him. In his panic, the 23-year-old tried to run into the hotel, but failed to see the closed glass door, which he smashed though, seriously injured himself in the fall.

Members of the police arrived on the scene and the local man was said to have handed over two kitchen knives before disappearing into the night.

At the same time, police were alerted to the situation inside the hotel, where the 23-year-old was found bleeding on the floor.

An ambulance was called and the man was taken to a clinic in Ayia Napa where he was kept for treatment.

The 22-year-old was apprehended after police secured a warrant for his arrest, another warrant was issued for the older man, who was said to have driven off after the ambulance arrived.
