POLICE are on the lookout for culprits that bombed the house of a man who is key witness in an attempted murder trial in Limassol.
The witness, Yiannakis Christodoulou, aka Foxis, was not home at the time, because he is being guarded at an unknown location somewhere in Nicosia.
But that did little stop some people trying to get a message across to the 28-year-old as they bombed his house in the Limassol village of Trachoni – where his fianc?e, his mother, his sister and his young niece live.
Miraculously, despite the large explosion and the massive damage to both the interior and exterior of the house, nobody was hurt.
Neighbouring houses were also damaged in the blast that went off in the early hours of Sunday morning and woke up almost all the residents in the village.
Christodoulou is the key witness in the trial of two men accused of the attempted murder of Skevos Prodromou.
Last April, gunmen fired 18 shots at Prodromou, who was hit by just three, in an underworld-related incident.
By a stroke of good luck, the incident took place near a hospital, and the victim was able to stagger there and get medical help.
Police later arrested two men believed to have masterminded the attempted assassination of Prodromou, when the victim identified them, telling officers “they had past differences with me”.
Prodromou has since been taken off life support and is in a stable condition.
It was the third attempt on his life over the past year.
About a month before he was shot, he had another close call when suspects threw a makeshift bomb at him outside the same house where his family was targeted. And seven months ago his car was torched.
Prodromou is the brother of Panicos, a National Guard officer gunned down last July outside his Limassol home.
Meanwhile Police and CID officials met on Sunday evening and decided to increase the police protection of both Christodoulou and his family.
A Limassol police source yesterday told the Mail, “In the wake of this bomb attack, we have decided to enhance security around the witness and his family.
“We believe, however, that the culprits were trying to scare the witness and his family and not actually kill them. But we are still taking this incident very seriously.”
