KEBE calls for shops to remain open

THE Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEBE) has requested the Interior Minister, Andreas Christou, to allow shops and stores to remain open during the weekend in order to better service the thousands of evacuees from Lebanon, who have a huge demand for products such as clothes, food and other essentials.

“To meet these demands,” the announcement continued “all shops and stores must remain open until the afternoons of Saturday and Sunday”.

Voice of Lebanon

Lebanese Ambassador to Cyprus Michel el Khoury yesterday stated that Cyprus could be the voice of Lebanon in the EU.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with President Tassos Papadopoulos, the Ambassador said that he personally thanked the President for the Cyprus government’s support, solidarity and kindness towards the Lebanese people. Speaking on the current situation in Lebanon, he said, “It is very bad. Lebanon is actually a disaster zone. We can consider Lebanon now as a disaster zone”.
