TELECOM providers PrimeTel have announced that television channels LTV and Alfa are now available through their broadband platform.
LTV and Alfa are being offered as additional channels for the PrimeHome package (Telephony + Internet + Television) and as part of the new PrimeTVplus package (Telephony + Television).
The PrimeHome package is offered at the price of £24.99 (normal price £29.99) per month. PrimeTel subscribers can add LTV and ALFA channels to their package for an additional £9.95 per month.
As part of the special offer, the installation worth £90 is provided completely free.
Earlier this month, LTV discontinued the transmission of the LTV channel on Multichoice’s satellite platform known as Nova Cyprus, citing financial differences.
It was the latest move in an ongoing dispute between the two former partners, after the Commission for the Protection of Competition (CPC) ruled that LTV’s content should not be exclusive and be available widely.
LTV and Alfa are also provided on CyTA’s miVision digital platform.
For existing miVision customers, the extra cost to get the LTV/Alfa content will amount to £12 per month, while for new customers, the charge will be £10 for the package of miVision for those who subscribe to the i-choice DSL service and £17 per month for those who don’t have i-choice, plus £12 per month for the LTV/Alfa content.
Multichoice yesterday countered, informing its subscribers that the fee for the months of August and September will halved.
In a press release, the company expressed “its deepest regret for the inconvenience its Nova Cyprus subscribers have undergone on account of the latest developments, even though the withdrawal of the channel LTV from its digital bundle of Nova Cyprus was not its decision or choice.
“The policy of Multichoice Cyprus with regard to analogue decoders was implemented long before the conflict with LTV and the aim was to upgrade our subscribers from an outdated technology.
Moreover, we should point out that the analogue decoders are no longer manufactured anywhere in the world and it is difficult, if not impossible, to trace the required parts for any repairs.
“LTV also accused us of perfidiously proceeding with the recycling of those decoders while the truth is, we were obliged by the laws governing the EU to proceed to such recycling in the same way that mobile phone and computer manufacturers are obliged to act likewise.”
Multichoice went on to promise that the Nova Cyprus “digital bundle is constantly being upgraded and many surprises await Nova Cyprus subscribers during the television season that follows.”
