Another candidate running for Nicosia mayor

NICOSIA architect Nikos Mesaritis yesterday announced his candidacy for mayor in the upcoming December municipal elections.

Speaking to reporters at a news conference Mesaritis outlined three goals he aspired to achieve if he were elected, including Nicosia’s economic development, the creation of job opportunities, and security in the capital.

The former Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK) chairman said that the local administration needed to share in the responsibility in shaping the town’s future and stressed the need to work out and implement an urban scheme for the whole of Nicosia with the cooperation of all the municipalities.

He added that just because he was not affiliated with any particular political party he was not indifferent to politics and said he was open to political cooperation. He also said the life he had led and his actions have shown his ideology and love for the country.

Mesaritis is the third candidate to announce his candidacy for mayor.

Current mayor Michalakis Zampelas has already said he would be seeking re-election and last month archaeologist and art historian Anna Marangou announced her candidacy.
