Warning over fake jewellery

PEOPLE have been warned to be on the lookout for crooks selling fake jewellery.

According to the police, a gang, made up of both men and women, has been operating across the island, selling the fakes as real gold.

Their methods involve gaining sympathy by pretending to be poor, or by saying that their children have health problems.

The jewellery, including items such as rings and necklaces, are stamped with the words, ‘18 carat gold’, and are said to be good quality fakes.

Police believe the culprits are operating mainly in large, crowded shopping areas.
The public has been warned to be very cautious in cases where they are approached by any such individual, and immediately to report them.

Anybody suspicious should be reported at the nearest police station or the Citizen’s Hotline, on 1460.
