Flight turns back after tyres explode

A CYPRUS Airways flight bound for Amsterdam from Paphos was yesterday forced to abort take off after two of its four back tyres exploded.

No passengers were hurt in the incident.

The Airbus 320 aircraft, which was carrying 115 passengers, was scheduled to take off from Paphos Airport at around 10.30am having arrived an hour earlier from Larnaca Airport.

The tyres burst just as the aircraft was preparing to take off.

“The passengers were never in any danger and they were all taken off safely and boarded for another flight to their destination”, said Civil Aviation Inspector Marios Papadopoulos.

Civil Aviation officials, who were yesterday still trying to establish the cause of the tyre explosions, ruled out a link to the current heat wave.
