What is it supposed to do?
The Guinot Hydradermie facial regenerates, smoothes and hydrates all skin types.
Although it can be customised for each individual, it is especially beneficial for blocked, spotty or scarred skin as it deep cleanses and refines the skin, making it smoother and clearer. Internationally renowned, it is used in top beauty salons and exclusive health spas worldwide for maintaining a balanced healthy complexion.
What benefits does it claim?
The facial is extremely deep cleansing although gentle at the same time. It effectively smoothes problem skin, hydrates dry, mature or sensitive skin and balances combination skin. If you suffer from bags, shadows or wrinkles, the facial helps diminish fine lines while replacing moisture levels. It is especially effective on scarring and spots due to the use of mild galvanic current, which was originally utilised by specialist doctors as far back as the thirties, to help refine scar tissue.
“There are lots of ways to try to help spotty skin, from strong chemical peels to fruit acid facials and the use of crystals,” explains fully qualified beauty therapist and facialist, Ilia Georgiou Elias. “But after having practiced most of these methods in the past, I’ve found that they aggravate the skin, usually doing more harm than good. Hydradermie does not aggravate or redden the skin.” In just over an hour of sheer relaxation, circulation is boosted and cellular regeneration is enhanced. “The results I have achieved on 99 per cent of problem skins are unsurpassed by any other treatment on the market,” says Ilia.
Is there any science behind it?
The treatment utilises two types of current; galvanic and high frequency. Galvanic current is an extremely gentle and safe current that has been used in the medical field for years, renowned for very gently refining scar tissue, its ‘desincrustation’ effect on blocked pores, and its ability to speed up cellular metabolism.
For the high frequency section of the treatment, a light, non-oily stabilised oxygen cream is used. When the high frequency is applied, the molecules in the cream separate, releasing free oxygen atoms, which then readily attach themselves to existing oxygen molecules, causing the formation of ozone. Ozone is very bactericidal, resulting in a germicidal and very healing effect.
What is it like?
Ilia first asked me about my dietary habits and all about my home skincare routine. After assessing my skin type, she cleansed my face and wiped a special liquid over the skin which effectively gets rid of all dirt and grime, while removing the skin’s natural resistance to electrical currents. The products felt very light, refreshing and non-greasy.
After choosing an ionising gel specially suited for me, two stainless steel rollers (which carry the galvanic current) were smoothed over my face, pushing the gel deeply into the skin to perform the action. The rollers were massaged from the neck up in smooth, gentle and relaxing movements. Following this, another smaller electrode then repeats the above action to target the smaller areas of the face.
The very fresh gels are ionised into the skin with negative and positively charged galvanic current that softens blackheads, enabling gentle and easy extraction. Pores are now deep cleaned and blockages are removed as Ilia carefully eases out blackheads.
Nothing is forced or squeezed out however, as this only results in blotchiness and scaring. Ilia insists that only blackheads which come out easily should be dealt with, believing that skin should be handled with extreme respect and gentleness.
Following this, the very light and stabilising oxygen cream is applied and a large piece of thin gauze placed over the face. The high frequency attachment is glided over this for a few minutes, which gives a lovely tingly sensation. All residues of cream are then removed and a refreshing gel was used to massage my face and neck for ten minutes.
Then a special mask for my skin type was applied. The whole thing lasted over an hour and I left feeling extremely relaxed with my face glowing and healthy. Don’t expect to walk out with your skin drastically altered, but within a few days you’ll notice that the texture is refined, with the overall condition clearer and smoother.
