Post office strike over EU plan

POST offices across the island will close shop for half an hour today in protest over a European Commission proposal to liberalise the postal market.

The employees’ work stoppage will be carried out between 12.30pm and 1pm and is part of a wider European strike over the Commission’s proposed directive to liberalise postal services on January 1, 2009.

The postal services yesterday apologised for any inconvenience and said they would do everything possible to ensure it served the public without any problems the rest of the time.
