Clover butter recalled

CLOVER BUTTER spread has been withdrawn from the Cyprus market after a massive recall of the product in the UK due to mould.

Two million tubs of Clover, made by Dairy Crest, have been withdrawn worldwide after a production glitch caused mould to develop in the tubs.

The firm said it was to recall all tubs of Clover with best-before dates up to August 10, 2007. The problem will cost the company millions.

A decision to withdraw the product was taken after the company received 130 complaints in a week over the bad taste of the spread.

Dairy Crest said the mould was caused by “an intermittent fault” in production. All sizes of tubs have been affected that have the August 2007, expiry date. Clover accounts for around 25 per cent of the company’s sales.

Importers in Cyprus said they had currently 143 boxes each with 16 units of 250grammes and 54 boxes each with 12 units of one kilo and nine boxes each with six units of two kilos. A new container was also due but this will not be allowed on the market, reports yesterday said.
