The daily states that certain property developers are scamming foreign buyers and tourists buy selling them properties in coastal areas that are not allowed to be developed on. The paper claims that the “scandal” has been going for some time now and that the situation has now reached tragic proportions. In other stories, it is reported that the municipalities are not getting rid of rubbish from skips in certain areas and that some streets are getting more and more polluted.

PHILELEFTHEROS: “Pressure is on at AKEL”. Also focusing on the AKEL meeting, the paper says that all possibilities are on the cards, especially with regards to the upcoming presidential elections in 2008. The paper claims that sources suggest that the party will offer its backing to the party leader Demetris Christofias with a majority of the party members to oppose the backing of Tassos Papadopoulos. In other news, the paper claims that police are looking into suspicious forest fires that are occurring around Akamas. Police suspect foul play stemming from some disgruntled residents of the area that are against a government plan to make Akamas a nature resort.

SIMERINI: “AKEL to look into presidency”. The paper says that left wing party AKEL is to look into the presidency issue and more specifically whether or not to back Tassos Papadopoulos in the upcoming presidential elections in 2008. The party may opt to back its leader Demetris Christofias. In other news, the paper claims that an investigation has been launched at the Nicosia horse track following the death of a 63-year-old man who was trampled to death by a bolting racehorse on Saturday.

ALITHIA: “Historic dilemma for AKEL”. Left wing party AKEL is today set to decide whether to enter the forthcoming presidential elections with AKEL chief Demetris Christofias as the candidate or to give its backing to Tassos Papadopoulos. In other news, presidential candidate Yiannis Kasoulides told the paper in an interview that Papadopoulos’ policy will not lead to a solution on the Cyprus problem.

TO THARROS: “Tassos has not done our European journey any justice”. The right wing paper looks into the comments of DISY leader Nicos Anastassiades who criticised President Tassos Papadopoulos and the government for not leading the island towards a solution particularly after its entry into the EU. Elsewhere, the paper claims that Cyprus will not be left without aerial support in the event of forest fires. The comments were made by Agriculture Minister Photis Photiou who said efforts are in process to bring two extra helicopters to Cyprus.

HARAVGHI: “AKEL members have the word”. The left wing mouthpiece looks into the comments of AKEL leader Demetris Christofias who has stated that any likely decision to be made from the meeting must be respected regardless of the outcome. The left wing party is set to decide on whether to back Tassos Papadopoulos or put forward Christofias as the presidential candidate. In other stories, the paper says that the exchange of land for Inias village residents will only be for those specific residents who will have their land turned over to the state for the nature project of Akamas.
