THERE was drama at the Paphos Criminal Court after a Chinese man, standing accused of double murder, head-butted the wooden dock he was standing in.
Chen Jian, 26, is facing two charges of premeditated murder against 38-year-old Demetris Chrysanthou Trakkos and the victim’s 23-year-old girlfriend, Slovakian national Monica Piczekova.
He is also facing two charges of attempted murder against two Bulgarian women who were working at Trakkos’ farm and restaurant in the Paphos village of Kathikas.
The bloody massacre took place on February 23 this year.
The 26-year-old then alarmed the three-judge panel and bailiffs as he bashed his head three times against the wooden dock where he stood inside before collapsing unconscious to the floor.
Guards rushed to him to a private room and an ambulance was called.
He was taken to Paphos General Hospital where doctors discovered he had sustained three separate injuries to his forehead.
Jian was taken back to court after receiving stitches to his head and his trial continued.
In his statement to police, Jian reportedly said that he felt hatred towards his former employer for the way he had treated him and he did not regret his actions.
According to reports, Jian had worked for Trakkos and was fired five days before Trakkos and Piczekova were killed.
The couple was attacked with a knife as they slept in their bed at Trakkos’ house just outside the village of Kathikas in Paphos. The murderer then turned the knife on the two Bulgarian women who were awoken from the screams but did not manage to kill them.
He then ran off into the nearby field.
Jian was later found by police hiding in some bushes close to the house where the murders took place and did not resist arrest.
Trakkos succumbed to his injuries upon his arrival at a hospital in the nearby village of Polis at around 5.30am whilst Piksekova dies in the ambulance on the way to hospital at around 5.40am.
In previous court hearings, police have had their hands full, first containing enraged friends and relatives of Trakkos who tried to lynch Jian and secondly containing the defendant himself who has burst crying and collapsing to his knees a couple of times.
During one court proceeding, a devastated Jian cried out in front of the judges, “God will punish me! God will punish me!”
His trial continues.
